1932 Roadster
1932 Roadster. A classic car that still has its devoted fans today.
The first metal construction sets inspired by this model appeared back in the thirties, when the '32 roadster was all the rage. I reckon it's the best model for our first car construction set as well.
The model measures 197 mm (8") in length and 86 mm (3.5") in width, with wheels that have a diameter of 36 mm (1.5"). The entire car is made up of 184 metal parts and 630 pieces of fasteners. The front wheels are steerable, and the rear wheels are mounted on half-shafts with dual fittings.
The model is relatively straightforward to build, except for the engine, where the assembly is tricky due to the very small dimensions. You'll also need to handle the bending of several parts cleanly.
The photos show a prototype version without the final gold plating. The cylinder heads, axle arms, and some other parts should be gold-plated.
